We know this event is in the middle of the work day, but we encourage whatever level of participation you can provide. If all you can do is join us for lunch, please do so. These girls would love to hear from you, especially about your career and current job.
WEN plans on providing future speakers for STEM Gems programs, and this kickoff event is a great way to learn more about the program and the impact on 7th and 8th grade students. If you would like to participate in this kick off event, please reach out to Laci Stretcher at Laci.Stretcher@apachecorp.com or Sammy Tabrizi at Samaneh.Tabrizi@pxd.com.
More information on STEM Gems:
STEM Gems is an after-school program for at-risk 7th and 8th grade female students that was created in hopes of inspiring girls to pursue a STEM career in the future. The program is held at Goddard Junior High and meets once a week on Thursdays from 4:20 - 5:20. The program is designed to help reinforce concepts that the students are learning in class as well as provide real world connections by bringing in female role models in STEM careers. To begin the year, we host a kick off event at the Petroleum Museum. This event features a tour of the Museum, lunch, and various STEM challenges throughout the day. This year we are centering the event around women in science, meaning that the majority of the activities that the girls will be doing will relate in some way to a female scientist and her contribution to the world of science.
